"Democrats: Obama needs hands-on economic approach" No! He Doesn't!
Now they are trying to get President-elect Obama to act "presidential" before he is even sworn in. They hope he will take the bait. So far he is more shrewd that they.
What they really want is to get off the hook. Like Pontius Pilate, wash their hands of any responsibility for the economic mess they created by blocking just about every sensible proposal that might have made President Bush and the Republicans look good before the November election.
Well, it has backfired. They fear risking the wrath of voters in the mid-term elections.
A majority of Americans do not want the automakers to be bailed out with taxpayer dollars. "Where do we stop?" they ask. $700 Billion for banks and mortgages and now another $34 Billion for Detroit? People are also angry about autoworkers earning more than $70.00 an hour (with benefits) while their Union officials point the finger at management.
Detroit has obviously tried to get the money from the bankers and the bankers have said - No! They know a bad credit risk when they see one. Right now the automakers are a bad risk by any standards so they expect we, the taxpayers, to take yet another bill upon ourselves for something we had nothing to do with.
President-elect Obama is wisely allowing President Bush and the current Congress to dance to this particular fiddler until he is sworn in as the next President of the United States.
